The German Christmas Market "Weihnachtsmarkt" Bristol 2001 Also this year in Bracknell details here Central Promenade Bristol Pictures from last years market: Bristol is the main city in Western England, it has two well known areas: most tourists like to stroll around the harbour area Harborside, that was once one of the centres of the slave trade and has now been brought up to date with its galleries, pubs, restaurants, the recently built Millennium Square, the modernised harbour, the many museums, some hotels and the media centre. However those seeking the real Bristol head towards St. Paul's, the Victorian old town centre. Here, soon after the Second World War, mostly immigrants from the West Indies established themselves. Bristol is a large industrial city and is about 100 miles West of London. The town has a population of around 650,000 and a catchment area of about 3 million. Many high-tech companies have set up in the area. The town contains many universities from which many a genius has set out. In the last three years the council have tried to establish a German Christmas Market, from Frankfurt, here. The marketplace, however, was a bit hidden away behind a large shopping centre next to a ruined church. This area was not really best suited to a Christmas market and offered no room for expansion. The area for this years event is a large modern marketplace (the Central Promenade) right in the middle of the town centre. On the western end of this area is the yacht harbour. The town has a great interest in a regular German Christmas Market, as it has proved so popular in the past. The market will be open from 10am till 8pm every day including weekends.
