Business need: Add individual executive
development in creativity and entrepreneurial behaviour to
develop a culture of coaching
Programme title: Coaching skills
Job categories: Departmental managers,
Line managers and Directors
Objectives
The programme will help participants to:
Programme design for objective 1
The assignment begins with a contract discussion between the person being coached, their line manager, and myself to set the ground rules and to ensure that expectations of all parties can be met. The coaching can then start. The person being coached and I meet for two hours at a time. During the first hour, I observe the executive at work. During the second hour we 'discuss' current and real issues that the executive raises. My style is non directive and non judgemental. The aim is to encourage reflection, provide feedback and occasionally challenge the thinking of the executive. We will avoid jumping on the first possible solution and instead look outside the box. Typically three to five two hour sessions are planned and then there is a review of the contract.
Programme design for objective 2
To develop a critical mass of managers able and willing to coach their subordinates, we can provide consultancy on the development of a coaching strategy, the necessary training in coaching skills and follow up, and the policy review report after the assignment. Coaching courses are two days in length, develop confident performance and equip managers with a developmental tool second to none in helping the business take advantage of change.
